LE SYNDROME DE L’EXILÉ Les Associés Crew

“Exile is a form of civic punishment to remove the person sanctioned from a place where they live. Exile is also the state of those who can or those unable or unwilling to return home, mostly because of political views or fear of heavier sanctions as the death penalty or imprisonment. It can then be described as voluntary exile. Exile can also be seen today as a remedy for the unease of life and a quest for identity. Immigration is very present in our society, and it may be due to the factors mentioned above. Exile is often seen as a fundamental period for the life of a man.

The artist in exile is usually deeply marked by the experience so much that it can be a source of inspiration behind his masterpiece.”

Who better than the artist can understand the exile. Babacar Cissé knows the journey, the train platform … these trains materialize for him memories and future destinations of his life.

When to return from this trip ? Why stay or leave ? Have these questions not crossed your mind at least once in your life ?

Some know the pain of leaving a homeland, and the others hoping to find a better future elsewhere. Their stories touch us and awaken in us the emotion of an experience that seems strangely close to us. Wouldn’t it be because we are all inherently exiles?. Men are constantly uprooted from one place to another, even from our childhood or a part of us that life and experiences have led us to cover, forget, or quit.

About the artists

LES ASSOCIÉS CREW has been present in the French art scene since 2006. Its members are hip hop dancers in the region of Bordeaux with exceptional records for many years, both in battle shows and in various dance companies (Hors série, Pietragalla, Rêvolution, Choréam, Paul Les Oiseaux, Ultimatum Step, Tribal Jam).

Under the artistic direction of choreographer Babacar Cisse “Bouba”, seven dancers and performers, encompassing jazz culture, classical, contemporary and African, form the core of the team.

Dance, and more broadly art, remains the motto of the team that loves to mix their work discipline and spontaneity with dynamism and maturity of their proposals, development of individuals and the group requirements. The company has gradually gained experience and was structured around the desire to create but without ever losing its warmth.

Les Associés Crew is today supported in their artistic projects and actions through a network of partners that include the CDC “« Le Cuvier» (Artigues-près-Bordeaux), Initiatives d’artistes en danses urbaines (Paris), la DRAC Aquitaine, le Conseil Régional d’Aquitaine, le Conseil Général de la Gironde, le Théâtre de Bressuire (Deux Sèvres), and the city of Cenon.

Winner with Être et renaître of the 2008 Beaumarchais contest, (competition rewarding a young dance company for his writing in dance choregraphy), the company has received the support of the Foundation Beaumarchais / SACD and Central Dance Le Galion. The CCN of La Rochelle will provide founds on creating the next performance of the company, a solo : Le syndrome de l’exilé (The exile syndrome).

Glob Théâtre
Glob Théâtre is an independent artistic place located in a former factory in Bordeaux  with a small theatre (110 seats, 500 square metres of flexible space) and a studio for independent work and rehearsals.

Opened to the contemporary forms of writings, the theatre decided quickly to support and present choreographic work of the companies of the region of Aquitaine. Choreographers are chosen as associate artists to strengthen this link. Fayzal Zegoudhi was the first artist from 2007 to 2010 and Antony Egéa from Company Revolution is our current associate until 2014. In addition to choreographic performances, we organise training courses,  a master’s degree class and educational meetings around dance.

These dynamics help us in developing partnerships with the other artistic structures: the opera of Bordeaux, Novart festival, Dance Biennial festival in Gironde and the Rencontre festival of the Court. With these opportunities, Glob welcomes national and international artists: Pedro Pauwels, Mark Tompkins, Carlotta Ikéda, Michèle Noiret, Nathalie Pernette, Cie united C.

Today, the Glob is situated in the heart of important renovation work in the north district of Bordeaux and development of the theatre is being planned to enlarge the capacity to 200 and increase functionality for artists and residencies. A strong architectural plan is being developed, with the new theatre opening in 2013 – 2015. The project will be devoted to contemporary dance as a priority axis of development.
